WORLD CLASS CIDER
In Festplassen you can also enjoy the local cider of Hardanger and Sogn. Cider production has a long history and tradition in Norway, especially in the regions of Hardanger and Sogn. These areas have some of the best conditions to produce world-class apples that are turned into world-class cider. The cider producers speculate that this will become the next champagne. Meet the cider producers at BAR LOCAL at Festplassen, and they will serve you amazing cider! Taste it and tell us what you think!
LEARN FROM THE BEST – INSPIRING FOOD COURSES
During the festival you can join the food courses to learn a lot about seasonal ingredients and various local dishes. The courses are held by the best ones in Bergen, and you also get to meet some of the food producers – all ready to inspire you! You can learn how to make seafood dishes, prepare oysters and shells in combination with the world’s best gin, ciders and beer, and also how the chefs prepare signature dishes of the region. Tickets will be launced in June.
YOUNG FOOD FEST
Young Food Fest is packed with free food courses and activities for children and youth from 6-15 years. Here you get to challenge the senses, taste and learn more about the food that is good for both the body and the planet. We arrange quiz, food courses, taste and smell tests, cooking competitions, boat trips, and lots of fun activities in collaboration with several of our good partners. We are currently working on the program for this year’s festival – in the meantime check out the 2021 program here (in Norwegian): matfest.no/ung-matfest/
BERGEN – UNESCO CITY OF GASTRONOMIBY
Through Bergen’s membership in UNESCO CITY OF GASTRONOMY network, Bergen collaborates with a number of cities around the world. In the network, the cities share experiences related to food, creativity and gastronomy. This year we will invite several European Unesco Gastronomy cities to the festival where we get to share experiences and to know their food culture, gastronomy and some of the chefs.
